Marchant Postgraduate Scholarship for International Students at Durham University

Durham University is offering a postgraduate scholarship for UK and international students at the Durham University Business School. Scholarships are awarded for a Masters by Research (MRes) leading to a PhD in the area of regional economic development focusing on issues surrounding Japanese inward investment. The total sum of financial support over the period of study is £48,000 at a rate of £12,000 per annum, subject to review at the end of the first year. The applications deadlines are 31 July 2015 for October 2015 intake and 31 October 2015 for January 2016 intake.

Eligibility:
-Applications are welcome from students with a social science or business background and strong interest in economic geography, regional development and business growth relating to the research scope.
-English language requirements: If English is not your first language you will need IELTS 7.0 (no element below 6.5) or Pearson Test of English Overall Score 70+ (No element below 62). Please note that these can be no more than 2 years old at the month the programme starts, eg. for a programme commencing in October 2014 the IELTS or PTE test must have been taken in or after October 2012.) TOEFL IBT is no longer accepted as an English Qualification for visa purposes.
-For UK students: A Masters degree, normally with a mark of at least 65% in your Masters dissertation.
-For non-UK students: A degree that is equivalent to a UK Masters. You also need to have completed and passed (at a level equivalent to at least 65%) a dissertation module.

Scholarship Description: Durham University is actively involved in working with Durham County Council and regional partners to support inward investment in the region as well as research into developing the supply chain. The Institute for Local Governance (ILG) at Durham University Business School is a pioneering research and knowledge exchange venture designed to maximise the benefits of collaboration between universities in the North East of England and the local authorities.

How to Apply: Applicants must submit an application using the standard University online application form. Within this form, where you are asked how you wish to fund your studies, please state ‘Marchant Postgraduate Scholarship Applicant’.
-You will be asked to submit the following supporting documentation:
-Current CV;
-a research proposal, which is no longer than 2,000 words in length (excluding bibliography);
-two references
-transcripts of your previous degree(s).
Applicants should be aware that they will be subject to Durham University Business School standard application procedures concerning English Language requirements.
