Successful candidates with relevant experience and recognized expertise in large onshore/offshore oil and gas EPC projects will be preferred.

Job Summary:  A mud engineer, also called drilling fluids engineer, plays a crucial role in the drilling process and should have analytical, math, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills to be successful in his career. The successful candidate will report to the Project HDD Manager.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: The roles and responsibilities for this position will include, but not be limited to:

  • Design the mud mix based on the expected geology which may change as drilling proceeds and geology changes. The geotechnical information is provided to the mud engineer who examines it and along with the contractor comes up with a drilling fluid plan.
  • Check the virgin fluid to establish a baseline by recording different parameters such as marsh funnel viscosity, pH, fluid density, fluid loss, yield point, and plastic viscosity.
  • Check mud samples at specified intervals against the baseline to detect and monitor developing problems. The finished mud report shall be given to the project superintendent and anyone else the contractor specifies at the end of each shift.
  • Recognize changes in the mud during the drilling process and make necessary adjustments for the mud viscosity, PH balance, and chemical components.
  • Inspect mud recycling plant. Screen sizes and availability shall be noted. Assist in training the person working the recycling plant once drilling begins.
  • Responsible for daily mud performance test, record and data collection. Conduct standardized testing during the drilling process, recommending drilling tools, equipment, and assisting excavating technicians.
  • Supervise the mud workers’ performance and guide them in mud preparation.
  • Responsible for the storage and use of mud materials and additives.
  • Work closely with other engineers and technical personnel on site to ensure smooth and successful work progress.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s degree in petroleum, chemical or mechanical engineering.
  • At least five years of working experience in O&G projects.
  • Skills in operating and maintaining mud performance testing equipment.
  • Completion of Baroid Core Training Course at Halliburton or other industry recognized program and 2-4 years of fluids and separation equipment experience.
  • Language: English (Required)
