Miss University Contest coming To Nkumba university

The contest for Miss University Uganda is back again. the beauty contest is running under the theme ‘Talent for beauty and culture Value’

According to the Nkumba University Guild Prime Minister, Nsibuka Harunah, free registration is open to whoever is interested in taking part.

“I want to register as many students as possible in this contest because I believe that we have many able students.

The auditions for Nkumba University are set for Tuesday 19th August 2014 just at the Guild Gardens from 11:00AM till 5:00PM.

Currently Mercy Corps has an office in Kampala and is implementing Food Security programs which comprises of Water and Sanitation, Livelihood and Agriculture and Conflict Mitigation Management Program in North and North Eastern Uganda.

Job Summary: The Finance Assistant Cashier will mainly be responsible for all financial functions in Uganda, including accounting, payments and banking, payroll, budgeting, financial reporting, and grant financial management and compliance. The Mercy Corps Finance Department ensures compliance with donor regulations as well as Mercy Corps’ internal policies and procedures. In its role as a support to the Programs and other Departments, the Finance Department provides timely reports and assistance to all departments, senior management and HQ to ensure that financial resources are used efficiently and effectively

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Follow all Mercy Corps policies, procedures, grant compliance and documentation requirements.
  • Implement and Make sure all Mercy Corps FFM, procurement, assets mgt, HR policies and procedures are implemented.
  • Implement and Make sure all respective donors and local Gov’t rules and regulations are respected.
  • Keep the office safe, safe keys, cash and other assets in a secure and protected place.
  • Keep record of all cash, bank and advances on excel worksheet, update every day and reconcile daily.
  • Do cash counts weekly and whenever needed by Finance Officer, Finance Director, Country Director and official auditors directed by the supervisor..
  • Print all payment vouchers and match with the documents and file.
  • Disburse or receive authorized cash or bank payments and receipts.
  • Ensure all required documents are attached; calculations are correct, appropriate approvals and reviews made per the AAM before payment of any cash or bank payments.
  • Enter all transactions to the accounting software under the supervision of the finance officer whenever required.
  • Ensure compliance and adherence with GAAPs, Ugandan and US laws and standard accounting practice.
  • Code all expenditures following the standard chart of accounts, coded budget and record to the accounting software or recording system daily and ensure weekly review and posting.
  • Match invoices/receipts with payment vouchers, GRN and other required documents.
  • Prepare cash, bank and advances reconciliations and submit for review/approval every week and monthly.
  • Ensure all income taxes, withholding taxes, VAT and other taxes are withheld and paid accordingly.

  • Keep all finance documents and reports are properly filed, labeled and stored in a clear and easily accessible manner following FFM.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

  • The ideal candidate should hold a Diploma or advanced certificate or equivalent in accounting or finance is required.
  • Two or more years’ experience in cashier, finance assistant and accounting
  • International NGO/PVO experience is preferred.
  • Accounting skills and experience in general ledger, journal entries, payroll, cash/bank management
  • Computer literacy skills in MS Office programs, particularly Excel and accounting software experience.
  • Excellent oral and written English skills
  • Willingness to travel to Mercy Corps offices and take temporary assignments

This could be one of the most profitable Trade Bazaar that Nkumba university guild has ever organized in its life time as in most students have come up with their own stalls hence competing with the outside community where by most students are selling clothes and food.

The most astonishing is that Baganda students under their umbrella Baganda Nkobazamgo students Association (BANKOSA) set up a ‘restaurant’ where they are serving different eats and drinks. The hard working students are also serving full meals for breakfast, lunch and supper with foods like chips, fish, beef among others.

Job Summary: The Child Sponsorship Development Assistants will mainly implement field level programmatic activities and sponsorship performance in line with targets and partnership standards in a manner that contributes to sustained and improved child wellbeing.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

1. Project Implementation and Reporting:

  • Actively participate in planning and budgeting, preparation of work plans, implementation of planned activities and monitoring/ reporting of progress.
  • Facilitate and monitor the implementation of planned activities and community level engagements.
  • Mobilize and facilitate the engagements of stakeholders during planning and development meetings, workshops and other fora.
  • Identify local level partners and support and facilitate the partners in the implementation of planned activities.

2. Community engagement and Advocacy:

  • Innovatively support communities including RC households to participate and benefit from the programme development.

  • Train the children committees in the respective parishes in advocating for their wellbeing.
  • Support and facilitate the children committees to plan for and hold meetings at all levels (School, parish and sub county) on a regular basis and document findings
  • Support the children committees to conduct outreaches within their villages/parishes and sub counties
  • Mobilize and facilitate active participation of children and their communities in planning, monitoring and implementation of community development initiatives.
  • Build the capacity of children, families and community to collectively engage local leaders on identified issues.
  • Follow-up on commitments by leaders on improvement of the wellbeing of children.
  • Mobilize communities to participate in annual children care and protection days – such as the Day of African child.

3. Management of Sponsorship Performance:

  • Responsible for monitoring of RC in line with partnership standards.
  • Ensure RC records and files are well managed and stored securely.
  • Support RCs to correspond with sponsors in a timely manner.
  • Facilitate processing of all special mails; Christmas cards, Spontaneous letters, APR, introductory letters within partnership standard..
  • Support management of Support Office Queries, Gift Notifications, mails, and file copies of correspondences in children’s files.
  • Conduct and produce quality periodic mailings (APR and Christmas Cards).

  • Analyze and follow up critical RCs findings (especially RCs with challenges).
  • Compile monitoring reports for management action.
  • Hold monthly / quarterly meetings with Child Monitors and guardians/parents and child protection committees to address findings from monitoring.
  • Work closely with the CDF to identify, train monitors and partners.
  • Provide information on support and benefit of RC to the CSDF and SDA to enable entry in STEP

5. Child Protection and Wellbeing:

  • Monitor the wellbeing and child abuse cases and report any incidents in line with child protection policy and guidelines.
  • Work with local leaders to protect children from child violations and abuses
  • Sensitize children including RCs, guardians/parents and other stakeholders about children’s rights and responsibilities.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

  • The candidate should possess a Bachelor Degree in Development Studies, Social Sciences, Agriculture, Entrepreneurship or Education from a recognized Institution of higher learning. A post Graduate qualification in a relevant field is an added advantage.
  • At least one year of experience in Development work attained from an International NGO, with sound understanding of programming.
