Uganda Musician Federation’s Leadership Amendments Create Confusion

The newly formed music association known as the Uganda National Music Federation yesterday moved to change its leadership, adding to the confusion.

It is claimed that certain cabinet members have been transferred to other duties and new members have been given other designations after complaints from various musicians.

A surprising turn of events saw vocalist David Lutalo, who had been handed authority, questioning his bandmates about the precise role to which he had been appointed.

As the third vice president position was deleted and Juliana Kanyomozi, who previously held the position, was nominated as the financial assistant, singer Pallaso alias Pius Mayanja kept her position in the provisional leadership as the second vice president.

Prior to the open meeting, there was a verbal spat between singer Hanson Baliruno and a group of media personalities, whom he accused of recording the proceedings in a private meeting conducted before the main meeting.

It turns out that the federation intended to represent musicians, authors, dancers, and others in the music industry is governed by a group of mainstream musicians.

It is unclear what the federation aims to address, given the proprietors have always stated that they support unity and copyright as much as opposing voices see money from the government.
