The University of British Columbia is offering a number of awards for international students beginning their undergraduate studies at UBC in the UBC Vantage One Program. Three types of awards are available: Entrance Awards value up to the full cost of the student’s International Program tuition, Excellence Awards value up to the full cost of the student’s academic program and living costs and Outstanding Student award up to $6,000 to outstanding UBC Vantage College students.

The award is made primarily on the basis of academic excellence but financial need will also be taken into account. The application deadline is January 30th, 2015.

Scholarship Description: UBC Vantage College awards assist students in making the transition from secondary school to university. The purpose of this program is to financially support academically qualified students who show an interest in joining and contributing to the UBC community, but who would not otherwise be able to attend without significant financial assistance. This program offers entering students a variety of single year and renewable. Following types of awards are available:

UBC Vantage College Entrance Award: Awards ranging in value up to the full cost of the student’s International Program tuition are offered to students beginning their undergraduate studies at UBC in the Vantage One Program at UBC Vantage College. The awards will be granted on the basis of academic merit; financial need will also be taken into account. The award is non-renewable and is made on the recommendation of UBC Vantage College.

UBC Vantage College Excellence Awards: Awards ranging in value up to the full cost of the student’s academic program and living costs are offered to students beginning their undergraduate studies at UBC in the UBC Vantage One Program. The value of each award is dependent on the recipient’s financial need. The awards will be renewed for up to three additional years or to degree completion, whichever is less, provided the recipient remains in the top quartile of the year of his/her program and maintains their status as an international student in Canada. Awards winners will have their awards reviewed annually to assess and update academic progress and financial need. In addition to academic merit, the award will be made on the consideration of financial need. The award is made on the recommendation of UBC Vantage College in consultation with the UBC International Student Initiative.

UBC Vantage College Outstanding Student Award: UBC Vantage College offers up to sixty one-time awards up to $6,000 to outstanding UBC Vantage College students enrolled in the Vantage One Program. The award is made primarily on the basis of academic excellence but financial need will also be taken into account. The award is made on the recommendation of UBC Vantage College.

Number of award(s): A number of awards will be available. Up to sixty one-time UBC Vantage College Outstanding Student awards will be granted.

Duration of award(s): The awards will be renewed for up to three additional years or to degree completion, whichever is less, provided the recipient remains in the top quartile of the year of his/her program and maintains their status as an international student in Canada (except UBC Vantage College Outstanding Student award which is a one-time award).

Notification: University will confirm receipt of application on or before February 13th, 2015 and student will be known by June 1st, 2015 if they receive one of the awards.
