Dr Stella Nyanzi has been remanded to to Luzira prison till November 9th 2018, the day for the hearing of her Cyber harassment case.

Nyanzi was suspended by Prof John Ddumba-Ssentamu, the Makerere University Vice-Chancellor.

The Makerere University researcher is charged of offences relating to cyber harassment and offensive communication.

The researcher appeared before the Buganda Road Court grade one magistrate Ester Nahiliya on Wednesday.

The Buganda Road Court grade one magistrate Ester Nahiliya informed Nyanzi that her role was to only read the charges as she will take plea before the trial magistrate of the Utility Court.

On September 16, 2018, Nyanzi used a computer to post on her Facebook page “Stella Nyanzi” wherein she made suggestions or proposals among others that she wished his Excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s mother Esteri Kokundeka’s cursed vigina canal had burnt upon his unborn feotus which suggestions or proposals are obscene lewd or indecent,” states the Prosecution.

Nyanzi asked for an interpreter from English to her native language Luganda which she understands better when the charges were being read to her.

Nyanzi told court that she wrote books about the vigina and the President knowing nothing about President Museveni’s mother.

She was on Friday last week arrested from Wandegeya police station when she planned to peacefully organize a demonstration against Makerere University for failure to comply to the orders of the University tribunal that wanted her reinstated back to her position in Makerere University.
