Job Title: Estates Assistant (Electrical)

The Government of Uganda (GoU), through the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS), will be undertaking the National Population and Housing Census 2014 Enumeration Exercise from 28th August to 6th September 2014 in accordance with the Uganda Bureau of Statistics Act, 1998. The Census 2014 results will provide bench-mark socio-demographic data at all administrative levels necessary for general administration and the planning process.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: The Electrical Estates Assistant will be responsible for:

  • Repair of broken down electrical office equipment as required by the Bureau;
  • Install, service, rectify and repair lighting fixtures, electrical panels, outlets and wiring;
  • Construct and maintain service equipment and read electrical circuit diagrams;
  • Carry out tests and ensure the availability of standard electrical power at the user terminal as required by the ERA;
  • Provide procurement specifications for electrical equipment and carry out power needs assessment when new equipment is to be installed;
  • Prepare and submit to Management a periodic status report on electrical equipment and installations at the Data Centre;
  • Report faults on the electrical system that can affect the normal operation of Bureau electrical equipment;
  • Install new equipment and verify work that has been done by outside service providers.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The applicant should hold a Diploma in Electrical Engineering from a recognised institution;
  • A minimum of three (3) years’ relevant experience.
  • Skills in time management;
  • Good team ethic
  • Working knowledge of project management;
  • Good working knowledge of records and information management; and
  • Extensive knowledge of quality assurance and control mechanisms.
