Job Title: Head of Credit and Operations
 
ABC Capital Bank started its journey in 1993, as a deposit taking financial institution then trading by the name Capital Finance Corporation Limited. Licensed and supervised by Bank of Uganda under the Financial Institutions Act 2004, Capital Finance Corporation Limited offered a wide range of products such as savings accounts, business accounts, fixed deposits, business loans services and remittances through Western Union money transfer agency. The target market was mainly small and medium enterprises, individual and salaried workers.
Job Summary: 
The ABC Head of Credit and Operations will be responsible for the smooth running of both the credit and operations department within the set policies, guidelines and procedures for the benefit of all stakeholders
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
1. Credit Management:
  • Develop and implement suitable credit risk policies.
  • Guide the Business on all aspects of Credit
  • Oversee the Credit approval process by recommending suitable discretions.
  • Responsible for the improvement of Credit processes by adopting and developing best practices.
  • Technically support the business in the growth of loans and advances to within the desirable levels.
  • Manage the loan portfolio in order to minimise the risk of loss.
  • Pursuing recovery of loans and advances with a view of achieving maximum recovery at minimum cost.
  • Monitor achievement of service levels agreements with users
  • Devise and implement a suitable training and development plan for self and all staff in the credit and operations.
  • Manage the costs within the department effectively
2. Operations Management:
  • Offer leadership, direction and pace to the Operations team
  • Develop the bank’s operations business plan and ensure proper implementation of the same.
  • Draft, review and implement the Bank’s Operations Manual and ensure compliance of the same to the set guidelines by both the regulator and the bank.
  • Develop best customer service policies, strategies and an aggressive customer retention scheme is in place.
  • Set performance standards and ensure that the objectives / targets in the Board approved operational plans are Supervise transactions in the system
  • Ensure that the bank complies with operational statutory tax requirements
  • Manage operational risks for the bank to prevent losses and other associated risks
  • Manage the physical cash balances in the safe and manage its replenishment
  • Oversee the liquidity position of the Branches in line with the Bank’s and BOU regulations and within insurance limits
  • Work closely with the bank’s auditors, BOU and other banks in all Operational matters relating to ABC Capital Bank.
Key Performance Indicators:
  • Zero Audit queries
  • Zero customer complaints.
  • 100% compliance to KYC and AML policies and procedures.
  • At least 3 trainings annually.
  • Reduced NPA level to below 5%
Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The applicant should hold a good University degree in any Accounting field
  • Possess additional Certified qualification in ACCA/ CPA an added advantage
  • At least ten years’ experience and above working a financial institution in both operations and credit departments
  • A minimum of three years’ experience at senior management level in credit department
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Good communication skills
  • Possess the ability to work under pressure
  • Computer literacy skills
