Uganda Red Cross Society (URCS) the leading National Humanitarian Organization in Uganda and a member of the International Red Cross Red Crescent Movement is seeking to recruit dynamic, self-motivated individuals to fill the enlisted positions; following the support received from the Joint Population Program – financed by DFID through the World Health Organization (WHO) to Uganda Blood Transfusion Services (UBTS); to establish three new blood collection teams in Lira, Arua and Moroto Districts. URCS has therefore, been entrusted by UBTS to contract and jointly implement activities for this program. URCS is an equal opportunities employer mindful of gender balance in its establishment.
Job Summary: The Senior Nursing Officer will be responsible for supervising the nursing care unit and supporting research activities.
Organisation: Uganda Red Cross Society (URCS)
Duty Station: Arua, Lira and Moroto, Uganda
Reports to: Principal Medical Officer

Job Grade: UR 7.1

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Manages and accounts for all allocated resources.
  • Plays a supervisory role in the provision of nursing care.
  • Submits timely requests for essential equipment’s and supplies.
  • Ensures equipment is secure, functional and well maintained.
  • Participates in research activities.
  • Imparts knowledge and skills to the staff supervised.
  • Ensures that staff adheres to Professional Code of Conduct and Ethics.
  • Counsels Blood Donors before and after blood donations.
Qualifications, Skills & Experience:
  • The applicant must be double trained at a Registered Level or its equivalent from a recognised institution; Member of the Nurses and Midwives Council and should have served at least three (3) years as a Nursing Officer.
  • The ideal candidate should demonstrate flexibility to adapt to changing requirements and  analytical skills
  • Excellent people management skills and culturally sensitive.
