KIU Western Campus Swears in Student Guild Leaders

Kampala International University (KIU) Western Campus has sworn in new leaders for the student Guild for the term 2023/2024.

The swearing-in ceremony, which took place at the basketball court of Western Campus, was held on April 18 and was graced by among others, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor KIU Western Campus, who was represented by the Director of Academic Affairs (DAA) Emmanuel Emiru.

Others were the Dean of Students Affairs Florah Bamutura, the University Counsel, who was represented by Paul Tusuubira and many other dignitaries.

The DAA encouraged the students to stay down-to-earth and maintain the humility they had when they were seeking for votes and also be transparent.

“When some of you were looking for votes, you were kneeling, dancing by force and begging for votes,” he joked.

“Please maintain that humility and don’t let the power that has been given to you corrupt you,” he advised.

He also encouraged those who lost the elections not to lose hope, giving them the acronym FAIL, which he said was “First Attempt In Learning” and he called upon them to work with the newly elected leaders because they also have qualities which they can add to the student leadership.

The University Counsel thanked the old and interim Guild Councils for securing the institution and advised the incoming Guild not to abuse the positions of responsibility they have been entrusted with.

The new Guild Council leaders were then sworn in under oath by the University Counsel, led by the new Guild President Douglas Matovu and Jean Nakato Tumuheki, the new Vice-President.

Brian Rwothomio is the new new Speaker whilst Alice Nyadoi was elected the new deputy speaker.

Members of Parliament from the different faculties include; Patience Mwesigye, John Atukunda and Emmanuel Okiror from Biomedicals, Shalom Omondo, Donald Orata and Emmanuel Kirya from Clinicals plus Catherine Andinda and Brian Rwothomiyo from Engineering.

Others are; Urban Abenawe and Zigira Muhairwa from Faculty of Education, Derrick Okisim as Chief Fresher, Uziah Kaija, Edwin Manzi and Desire Nampeera representing hostel dwellers as well as Joselyne Kahunde among others.
