Makerere university bans Naked-Mile marathon

Naked-Mile marathon banned at Makerere. It sounds funny but Makerere university students were planning for a “Naked-Mile” marathon around the campus. Unfortunately, the marathon has been banned prematurely.

Security at Makerere University, the oldest public institution in Uganda has been ordered to immediately arrest any student found running around the campus naked.

The move follows the emergence and adoption of a culture during the culture week which involves students running around campus during the night code named the “Naked Mile”.

According to a letter copied to all University and security officials, Cyriaco Kabagambe, the Dean of students of Makerere University warned  students involved in the “backward practice” to immediately stop it.

“We were informed that the practice was emphasized by Lumumba and Mitchel Hall and that some women halls of residence had also embraced the habit,” said Kabagambe.

However, students say they do not run naked but put on boxers and vests and that due to uncontrolled excitement, some students end up undressing.
