The 88th Guild Government under the stewardship of H.E Alionzi Lawrence Dangote has been formally disbanded to pave way for a new team.

Makerere University Dean of Students Winifred Kabumbuli confirmed the dissolution of the 88th Guild Cabinet and Guild Representative Council in a letter addressed to the student’s community.

“I am writing to inform you that, in accordance with the Makerere University Students’ Guild Statute 2022 Article 11 (f) and (g) the decision has been made to dissolve the current Students Guild Cabinet and Guild Representative Council, and other Guild organs with the exception of the Guild Tribunal effective 17th March, 2023 after the end of their term of office,” she stated.

The expiration of services by the 88th Guild ushers in a tactical phase of selecting their successors – an electoral process.

In the meantime, all affairs of the Student Guild shall be handled by the Electoral Commission with the University Management through the Department of the Dean of Students in accordance with article 11(f) of the Makerere University Students Guild Statute 2022.

Ms. Kabumbuli added that the Guild Tribunal will continue to operate as usual and will provide a platform for students to raise concerns and grievances in a fair and impartial manner until the second sitting of the next Guild Representative Council in accordance with Article 12(d) of the Makerere University Students’ Guild Statute 2022.

She also thanked the outgoing Student Guild Leadership for their service and dedication during their term of office, and wished them well in their future endeavors.
