About US:
The National Environment Management Authority (hereinafter called “NEMA”) was established under the National Environment Act, Cap.153 in May 1995 and continued under the National Environment Act No.5 of 2019 as the principal agency for environment management in Uganda charged with regulating, supervising and coordinating all activities relating to the environment.
Job Summary: The Principal Research and Innovations Officer will spearhead Environment Research and Innovations
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead the development and implementation of Work Plans, Budgets and prepare timely reports
- Develop and manage environment Research Agenda, Strategy and Programs
- Support development and promote sustainable environment Technology and Innovations
- Develop and manage a robust environment monitoring and compliance Laboratory Service
- Support development and implementation of National Environment Action Plan
- Support development and implementation of Local Governments and Urban Authorities Environment Action Plans
- Support compilation of the State of Environment Reports for Uganda
- Develop bankable proposals for sustainable resource mobilization and collaboration efforts
- Coordinate with other divisions/departments to mainstream Environment Research and Innovations
- Supervise and appraise the staff under him/her
- Perform any other official duties as may be assigned by the Supervisor
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant must hold an Honors Bachelor’s Degree in the relevant field of Environment and Natural Resources Management or Natural Sciences
- A Master’s Degree in the relevant field of Environment and Natural Resources management or Natural Sciences
- A minimum of six years of relevant professional working experience in Environment and Natural Resources Management three of which should have been at senior level in a reputable organization.

- Excellent scientific analytical skills
- Strong interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills
- Knowledge and skills in Strategic Planning
- Knowledge and skills in Conservation Planning
- Leadership, team building and supervision skills

- Knowledge Management skills
