Short courses offered at UTAMU's School of Professional and Vocational Education

Mr. Sekilanda during a skills development class at  UTAMUThe School of Professional and Vocational Education(SVPE) has released its list of short courses. These courses which also include professional courses are intended to equip students with multiple practical skills with which learners can ably create and  boost the job market in Uganda.

The programmes currently on offer include; Website design, Graphics design, Cisco IT Essentials (PC Hardware Repair & Maintenance),Cisco Certified Networks Associates(CCNA), Computer applications and systems and Cyberoam Certified Network and Security Professional (CCNSP).

Others are: Moblie Applications Development and Java programming, Huawei Certified Datacom Associate (HCDA),Association of certified Chartered Accountants, Certified Public Accountants (CPA),Certificate in E- Marketing, Entrepreneurship and Business Management, Project Planning and Management and Research methods and Data Analysis.

Mr. Drake Patrick Mirembe, the Dean, SVPE said that the programmes  have been  developed mainly to address the unique needs of students and re-skilling the corporate entities in an effort to give them an edge over their peers.

Currently,  the school offers 4 Diploma programmes, one university access course, over 60 short courses, 10 professional courses and monthly workshops. “In a knowledge based economy, one needs multiple skills to remain relevant in today’s job market. At SPVE, we are constantly working around the clock to identify training needs and provide study opportunities ”, he explained.

The School of Professional and Vocational Education addresses the need for continuous improvement and re-skilling / refresher courses for professionals and practitioners. The short courses are customized to meet specific individual and group needs as well as professional courses that are awarded by internationally recognized Institutions and designed to address specific professional knowledge gaps.

The school according to Mirembe aspires to be the gateway of professional skills training and plans to avail DELL, Adobe, and EC-Council programs on the regional market in the near future. Students are admitted to these programmes on a monthly basis. All Courses run for five weeks except CCNA which covers a duration of three (3) months.
