Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Mentoring and overseeing the activities of the Storekeepers in all areas like receiving, issuing, perpetual audit and Storekeeping (overall section wise supervision).
  • In charge of the co-ordination for ‘Surplus Inventory’ and ‘Non-moving items’ related job as per guidelines set by the management.
  • Responsible for monitoring the material movement and conduct spot checks to ascertain whether they are in conformity with the issue voucher or not (Internal Audit)
  • Ensuring subordinates to keep items in their respective locations with proper identification labels indicating the item code, item description, part number, location, indent number etc.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

  • The ideal candidate should hold a Bachelor’s degree in any of these fields: Electrical, Mechanical, Automobile or Instrumentation Engineering from a recognised University.
  • At least five to eight years working experience preferably in any industry/sugar plant.
  • SAP Knowledge in MM Module is desirable.
  • Detailed knowledge and understanding of spare parts related to Sugar Industry.
  • Good working knowledge of Inventory Control & Management.

Age: 25 Years and above.

Prof. Mondo Kangonyera to wave bye bye to Makerere University as Chancellor

Prof. Mondo Kangonyera’s contract as Makerere University Chancellor expires in January 2016 and he is not eligible for re-appointment after serving for two terms.

According to section 30 (2) of the Universities and Other Tertiary Institutions Act, the Chancellor shall hold office for a period of four years, but shall be eligible for re-appointment for one more term.

The chancellor of Makerere University is appointed by the President of Uganda  on recommendation by the University Council for a renewable four-year term.

The Chancellor is the titular head of the University and presides over all ceremonial assemblies of the University, confers degrees and other academic titles and distinctions.

Who is Prof.Mondo Kangonyera?

Kagonyera was born in Kabuga Village, Rukungiri District, in the Western Region of Uganda, in 1941, to Zakaria Kagonyera and Elizabeth Kirihura.

He attended Kigezi College Butobere for his O-Level studies, before being admitted to Royal College Nairobi for his A-Level.

He then joined University of Nairobi where he graduated with a Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine in the early 1960s.

He later went on to obtain a Master of Science in Veterinary Medicine, from the University of California Davis, followed by a Doctor of Philosophy from the same institution.

In 1971, Kagonyera joined Makerere University as a lecturer.

He was instrumental in establishing the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, which has since morphed into the College of Veterinary Medicine, Animal Resources & BioSecurity.

He also served as the chairman of the university appointments board from 1993 until 1999. He left the university to join Ugandan politics in 1998.

As a politician, he served as the Member of Parliament for Rubabo constituency in Rukungiri District and as a minister for general duties in the office of the prime minister.

He also served as the deputy managing director of the Ugandan National Social Security Fund from 2006 until 2008.

Professor Kagonyera was first appointed Chancellor by President Yoweri Museveni on the recommendation of Makerere University Council on 23rd October 2007.

He is currently serving his second four-year term, following his re-appointment by H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the President of the Republic of Uganda on 24th October 2011 and re-installation on 12th January 2012.

Professor George Mondo Kagonyera is the second non-Head-of-State Chancellor of Makerere University, the first being Rt. Hon. Professor Apolo Robin Nsibambi, a distinguished alumnus of Makerere University and former Prime Minister of the Republic of Uganda.

Outside the University, Professor Kagonyera has served in various capacities as a Member of Parliament and as a Minister in various portfolios and has shown exceptional brilliance and consistency in loyalty and dedication to this country.

He is an academician of long and proven expertise and his service to Makerere University as a Teacher, Researcher and Chairperson of the Appointments Board and Chancellor has won him great admiration.

Serena Williams wins French Open final against Czech 13th seed Lucie Safarova to claim her 20th Grand Slam title.

The American, 33, won 6-3 6-7 (2-7) 6-2 to claim her third French Open and 20th Grand Slam title.

Williams who is ranked number one, needed two hours and one minute to win.

Safarova, playing her first Grand Slam final, led by a break in the decider but Williams won the last six games.

The 33-year-old becomes the third player – male or female – to win 20 major singles titles.

Only Germany’s Steffi Graf on 22 has won more since the open era began in 1968, with Australia’s Margaret Court collecting 24 between 1960 and 1973.

Williams now holds three of the four major titles and is on course can of completing the set at Wimbledon, having managed the feat already in 2003.
The world number one was so pleased to win the trophy, she said; “It makes this trophy really special,” she added “I really wanted it. I wanted to win so bad. “I just felt like I had every opportunity in this match. Being down from the second, third, fourth round, it wasn’t very easy, so I probably topped for my most difficult time to win.

Stan Wawrinka shocked Novak Djokovic to win his first French Open title and put a dent in the world number one’s career Grand Slam hopes.

The Swiss who is seeded eight played brilliantly in a 4-6 6-4 6-3 6-4 victory at Roland Garros.

Wawrinka, 30, brought an end to Djokovic’s 28-match winning run as he claimed his second Grand Slam title.

Djokovic harbored hopes of becoming the eighth man to complete the set of all four major titles were not achieved.

This means the serb will have to wait for atleast another 12 months before attempting to match the full set of major titles collected by Andre Agassi, Don Budge, Roy Emerson, Roger Federer, Rod Laver, Rafael Nadal and Fred Perry.

Djokovic went into the final as an overwhelming favourite after he had eliminated nine-time champion Rafael Nadal and third seed Andy Murray, but he was outclasses by Wawrinka.

“I would like to thank my coach Magnus Norman. You played in the final without winning but this victory is yours as well as mine.”

The champion pointed out how one day his counter-part Djokovic will win the Roland Garros.

“One day, you will win Roland Garros,” Wawrinka told the serb during the post-match ceremony. “You deserve it.”

Wawrinka was making his 11th French Open appearance, equaling Federer and Andre Agassi for most attempts before winning it.

The victory makes him only the second Swiss to win at Roland Garros after Roger Federer, the man he beat in the quarter-finals.Meanwhile fourteen-time Grand Slam winner Rafael Nadal has dropped to 10th in the latest world rankings – his lowest position in more than a decade. The Spaniard, 29, has fallen after losing to world number one Novak Djokovic in the French Open quarter-finals last week.
