Job Title: Finance & Administration Manager

Since 1988 Send a Cow (SAC) has transformed a million lives, by helping African families and orphans to grow enough food to eat, sell their produce and develop small businesses that last. Providing livestock, seeds, training and ongoing support, it helps families leave poverty behind for good. The Send a Cow Group currently constitutes Country Programmes in seven African countries plus the UK and USA, together with a Group Executive which is based in the UK.

Send a Cow Uganda (SACU) is registered as a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) in Uganda (registration S.5914/1894), and is constituted with a local Board who ensure that SACU meets local legal obligations, input into the strategic planning process, and provide support, and networking and other development opportunities.

Job Summary: The Finance & Administration Manager will provide leadership and financial management of SACU and provide financial support and oversight to the Country Director, Group and SACU Board. The incumbent will also manage all finance and administration staff.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement accounting policies, systems, controls and guidelines to ensure high quality reporting , procurement, security and control for the organisations financial resources and assets in line with SAC financial manual, International and local Accounting Standards.
  • Offer accurate and timely monthly reporting to Country Director and Group to include narrative and highlight of any issues. This should include reporting on performance year to date, projections for the year, balance sheet, cash flow and restricted reserves.
  • Ensure financial implications are taken into account in decision making.
  • Offer accurate and timely monthly reporting to department heads and project managers to enable them to effectively manage their departments projects, and donor reporting. Hold regular meetings and ensure financial implications are taken into account in decision making.
  • Manage year end process to include meeting deadlines and support, facilitate, review and follow up audit issues, taking leadership in any audit findings.
  • Management of the budget and planning process and presentation of budget to the Country Director, SACU Board and Group to aid them achieve their growth goals and strategic plan ensuring full funding restrictions and implications are assessed.
  • Compile and submit clear reports to quarterly Finance Committee and SACU Board meetings to enable them to have a strategic oversight of SACU.
  • Offer leadership, guidance and awareness of finance and resource issues to SACU management with a view to build their capacity and understanding.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to the finance and administration staff. Supervise, mentor and motivate them with a clear plan for their training and development
  • Support, facilitate, review and follow up audit issues and take leadership in addressing audit findings and monitor their implementation in line with the SAC financial manual.
  • Actively participate and provide financial and budgetary guidance to the proposal writing and development process and assess the financial soundness and viability of all proposals developed in line with the SACU strategic plan.
  • Ensure that proposals build in full project costs and that the implications of funding, matching and commitments are fully understood throughout this process and before any proposal is submitted
  • Ensure that there is financial compliance to all donor requirements and guidelines i.e that staff are aware of and understanding the issues.
  • Effective management and forecasting of restricted reserves through the year, along with preparation of detailed analysis at year end.
  • Oversight of IT, property, insurance, administrative and other aspects of operations to ensure smooth running of operation.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The candidate should for the Send a Cow UK Finance and Administration Manager job should possess a Bachelors’ degree in Commerce, Business Administration with a major in Accounting. Part or full professional qualification in either CPA or ACCA. Masters in Accounting or Finance, MBA or Commerce
  • Five or more years in a senior management position

  • Experience in project planning and budget management, in particular for funding proposals.
  • Past exposure and experience in policy development and implementation
  • Prior experience in proposal writing and development.

  • Take initiative to build relationships with potential funders including individual community donors.

  • Build and maintain profitable, long-term fundraising relationships with current donors and potential donors.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The applicant should hold a Bachelor’s degree from a recognized institution with strong marketing & communication skills or equivalent work-experience. If minimal education requirement is not met, then candidate should apply if they feel they have the skills and potential to excel in this position.
  • The candidate must have excellent verbal & written communication, and sales ability.
  • The ideal candidate must have a friendly and professional speaking voice with strong phone etiquette, positive and energetic attitude, and strong desire to meet goals and commitments.
  • Good computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office is very helpful.
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English language. Must be proficient in the use of computers and office equipment.
  • Previous experience in a similar position is not a prerequisite but is an added advantage

Uganda Christian University was founded when the historic Bishop Tucker Theological College was promoted as a university in 1997. Bishop Tucker Theological College trained clergy and educators during its 84-year history from 1913-1997. The local chief, Hamu Mukasa, granted land for the college to operate in Mukono. International partnerships were part of the College’s missionary history. Job Summary: The Curriculum & Timetable Coordinator will manage the university curriculum and prepare the university timetables for all faculties and departments.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Scheduling of lectures & examinations per semester.
  • Supervise the setting up of equipments for the teaching and learning and cleanliness of the lecture rooms.
  • Supervise the circulation of timetables to the faculties/departments and students.
  • Manage the supervision of examinations.
  • Update and maintain academic staff records.
  • Receive applications from academic staff and reports on staff evaluation.
  • Provide information to the Directorate of Human Resource & Administration of who is teaching each semester/module to enable processing of academic staff contracts & payments.

Job Summary: The MEL Director will have responsibility for all monitoring, evaluation and Research activities associated with the project.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support the development of project reports with staff and executing partners in preparing their progress reports in accordance with approved reporting formats and ensure their timely submission of ad-hoc, monthly, quarterly and annual reports.
  • Compile and prepare consolidation progress reports for project management including identification of problems, causes of potential bottlenecks in the project implementation, and providing specific recommendations.
  • Carry out regular visits to the field to support implementation of M&E and to identify where adaptations might be needed.
  • Build and grow participatory planning and monitoring by training and involving primary stakeholder groups in the M&E of activities.
  • Facilitate, act as resource person, and join, if required, any external supervision and evaluation missions.
  • Monitor the follow up of evaluation recommendations
  • Identify the need and draw up the Terms of Reference (ToRs) for specific project studies. Recruit, guide and supervise consultants or organizations that are contracted to implement special surveys and studies required for evaluating project effects and impacts.
  • Design and implement a system to identify, analyze, document and disseminate lessons learned.
  • Consolidate a culture of lessons learning involving all project staff and allocate specific responsibilities.
  • Ensure that ToR for consultants recruited by the project also incorporate mechanisms to capture and share lessons learned through their inputs to the project, and to ensure that the results are reflected in the reporting system described above.
  • Document, package and disseminate lessons not less frequently than once every 12 months.
  • Actively facilitate exchange of experiences by supporting and coordinating participation in any existing network projects sharing common characteristics
  • Identify and participate in additional networks, for example scientific or policy-based networks that may also yield lessons that can benefit project implementation.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The applicant should hold a Master’s Degree or higher in Monitoring and Evaluation, Public Health, Demography, Health Management, Social Science, Biostatistics, Statistics, or a related field is required.
  • At least eight (8) years working in monitoring, evaluation and research in the public health field, with progressively increasing level of responsibility.
  • A minimum of three years’ experience supervising, monitoring, evaluation and research efforts, preferably with respect to child welfare and protection systems strengthening, capacity building, economic strengthening, and service delivery
  • The candidate must have strong quantitative or mixed-method and analytical skills and ability to articulate technical information clearly and effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong computer skills using MS Excel Word, PowerPoint and Access, and at least one data management software program (SAS, SPSS), experience training others in its use is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities, depth and breadth of technical and management expertise and experience, and strong interpersonal, writing, and oral presentation skills
  • Two years of experience living or working in a developing country is desirable
  • Mature Christian, able to stand above denominational diversities
