TheThe Equipments included, spectrophotometer (DNA nucleic and separation analyzers), Analytical balance (for measuring small weights with high precision), Calorimeter, Electrophoresis machine (for separation of sickle cell nucleoids), Hot air Oven, Ice making Machine, Autoclaves (for sterilization) and a standby generator (30KVA)
These Equipments were received by the vice chancellor Rev Canon Dr.John Senyonyi and Dr.Edward kanyesigye Dean of the school UCU.
Shs73m was fundraised through UCU Sunday collections in 2018, UCU Sunday collections is an annual event organized every last Sunday of September. It’s set aside by the House of Bishops of the Church of Uganda for the Church to come together in support of her University in prayer, increased awareness, accountability and financial support.
UCU community welcomed the equipment with open hands, Surgery student, said their practical training had often been affected by load-shedding and inefficient equipment. He added that without the equipment, like vortexing machine, it was hard for us to have some practicals because we could not transfer the theoretical knowledge directly to patients.
“I can only say that this is a relief for the School of Medicine because it has not been easy for the students to carry out their experiments in the laboratories. I believe now they will do more experiments,” Dr. Edward Kanyesigye said
He further expressed happiness that the inefficiency of Umeme power supply at the school had been solved with the installation of the three-phase, generator.
