Ugandan students can apply for Japanese scholarship programs

The Japanese Government is offering a number of scholarship programs every year to international students who wish to study in Japan. So far, 79,000 students from approximately 160 countries and regions around the world have studied in Japan on the programs.

Every year about 10 Ugandan students are selected to receive the scholarships to study in Japan. Working with the Ministry of Education and Sports, the Embassy of Japan makes the first selection and recommends nominees to MEXT, and then MEXT performs final selection and pick scholarship grantees.

(2015 forms will be ready shortly) However, hardcopies are available at the Embassy.The Embassy of Japan in Uganda will accept applications for 2015 until 13th June 2014 (Sharp). How to apply for the scholarship: These are the steps to be followed when applying for the Japanese Government Scholarships;

Step 1
The interested persons should go to the Embassy of Japan in Uganda, Plot 8 Kyadondo Road, Nakasero, Tel: +256-414-349542/3/4 (Next to the Ministry of Education Headquarters) and pick free application forms.

Step 2: The forms should be filled in and returned to the Embassy with certified copies of degree transcripts and certificates

.Step 3: The Embassy will then call the shortlisted candidates for an English language examination (previous exams can be found on the internet, please check this website for past exams

Step 4; The Japanese Embassy will then call the best students who excelled in the English language exam for an oral interview where they will be asked basic questions about themselves, what they know about Japan (economy, culture, politics) and future plans.

Step 5; The selected candidates will be given a letter of acceptance from the Ministry of Education, Japan and its from this point on that the student has to use this document to search for a course and university of their own choice, (The Japanese Government doesn’t limit applicants on courses so whatever the Japanese study, any foreign student can also apply for the same course, in case you fail to get a course or university of interest then then the Ministry of Education in Japan,Tokyo will help you finds a course and university.

Step 6; After you are admitted into the University (accepted by the Professor you contacted by email), the embassy will then ask you to take your passport for visa and air ticket issuance.
