JOB DETAILS:
Basic Needs UK in Uganda (BNUU) is a National Organization committed to supporting access to quality Mental Health Services in Uganda through in service training of health workers, research, advocacy and raising awareness about mental health issues in communities. With funding from Comic Relief through Network for Africa, BNUU is implementing a 3 years community mental health and development project in Agago District to strengthen mental health service delivery in the District. BNUU therefore seeks to recruit competent and qualified candidate to fill in the following positions. .

Job Responsibilities:
• To organise and facilitate activities between BasicNeeds, partners and the User groups.
• To organise and facilitate activities with various stakeholders working at sub county and district level.
• To support user groups in local level advocacy initiatives at sub county and District level.
• To animate community level meetings with people with mental illness.
• To facilitate the formation of Self Help Groups owned and managed by stabilised poor People with Mental Disorders and their carers.
• Animate Community awareness raising meetings and train SHGs to do the same.
• Lead in the development of programme IEC materials in consultation with the Programme Manager.
• To organise and facilitate stakeholder related workshops and meetings for and with partners working at sub county and district level.
• To ensure all project activities are well documented and saved on the server and in hard copy.
• To comply with all BasicNeeds policies and procedures as detailed in the various management bulletins and policy documents.
• To ensure cordial relations with all partners and stakeholders in the field of mental health and development.

Able to appreciate the importance of planning and scheduling tasks, without being inflexible or rigid. Able to strike a balance in being task oriented but with the interpersonal skills to work with other project contributors.

• Supports others in a team in making differences in standpoints and arguments explicit and considering them in a respectful manner and, through the way in which he/she behaves, helps bring the various arguments into line

• When collaborating with others, sees to it their activities and decisions contribute to the team result, stimulates team members to take action where necessary and takes action himself/herself when the achievement of results is threatened
Planning and Organizing
• Ability to understand what it takes to implement an activity effectively and to pre-empt results. Has high standards and recognition of the need for procedures, careful planning, and co-ordination

• Showing, by displaying vision, action, and sticking to policy, aims at achieving equality between men and women in society, taking into account the environment.
Context
• Organizational unit: Programmes Department
• Accountability: to Program Manager
• Responsible for: Self Help Groups
• Framework: management/result Agreement, Operational Planning and individual planning

Job requirements:
• Academic level of working and thinking;
• Bachelor degree in community development, social work or any related degree
• Active knowledge of English and Acholi languages (verbally and written)
• Minimum of 2 years of relevant working, capacity building and partnerships experience (thematic area/change management, team leadership)
• Knowledge of and experience in partnerships practices; and capacity building initiatives and participatory techniques.
• Proven management capacity
• Knowledge and skills:
• Broad knowledge of and insight into theories relevant to development in the field of structural poverty alleviation
