About EU Project:

The British Council received funding from the EU for a twenty four month project that will be supporting the Promotion of Women’s Rights.

Job Summary: The British Council Part-time Accountant will ensure  accurate management of the project’s financial accounts in compliance with applicable rules by the European Union and procedures for both the British Council and ACFODE the project implementing partners.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:  The Accountant will be responsible for the following tasks and activities:

  • Prepare and present the project’s annual accounts and financial statements – both provisional and final – in line with the European Union grant financial regulations;
  • Manage accountability submission by local partner- ACFODE, to ensure accuracy and proper documentation
  • Send monthly updates on budget implementation and monthly budget vs actual reports with detailed commentary;
  • Prepare monthly reconciliation of British Council’s expenditure on PWR based on SAP reports;
  • Offer technical advice on the interpretation and implementation the European Union financial guidelines and procedures;
  • Actively participate in the development of financial procedures and model documents, including check lists, for all of the essential financial activities;
  • Preparation and support for the project audit;
  • Ensure proper procurement procedures are complied with for all purchases;
  • File and archive documents connected to the accounting function.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:  

  • The British Council Part-time Accountant should hold a Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related area
  • At least three years of proven work experience in accounting.
  • Past experience managing EU funded projects is an added advantage
  • Excellent command of both spoken and written, of English;
  • Specialist accounting knowledge;
  • Good presentation skills;
  • Working knowledge of financial systems
  • Notable organisational and administrative skills, including the ability to manage priorities;
  • Possess the ability to work in a proactive and autonomous way.
