Job Title:    Human Resources & Administration Officer

Samaritan’s Purse is a nondenominational evangelical Christian organization providing spiritual and physical aid to hurting people around the world. Since 1970, Samaritan’s Purse has helped meet needs of people who are victims of war, poverty, natural disasters, disease, and famine with the purpose of sharing God’s love through His Son, Jesus Christ. The organization serves the Church worldwide to promote the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Job Summary:  This role comprises of two distinct components. The first involves providing office administration and logistical support with the aim of maintaining efficient operations within the office. The second component entails supporting the team in the areas staff administration, HR database management, recruitment, and any other related activities that contribute to fostering team cohesion and effectiveness in fulfilling the mission of Samaritan’s Purse in the country.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:  

Human Resources

  • Maintain up-to-date personnel files, leave tracking, and other HR records.
  • Support monthly payroll processing and serve as point person for administering all staff benefits.
  • Ensure compliance with internal HR policies and local labor laws, liaising with local legal counsel, supporting with conflict resolution and advising senior management, as appropriate.
  • Support managers and staff in performance management and ongoing staff development.
  • Coordinate the recruitment of new staff, including preparation of internal/external documents, shortlisting, interviewing, reference checks, contract preparation and orientation/onboarding.

Admin

  • Administer service contracts including housekeeping, rent, utilities, internet & phone, catering, and security.
  • Support general office management including building maintenance, and office stock of kitchen, stationary, cleaning and other required supplies.
  • Coordinate travel arrangements for international staff and visitors including visas related documentation.
  • Support the Wellness Committee to organize member care initiatives and office activities.
  • Conduct all activities in the most cost-effective and efficient manner, in line with Samaritan’s Purse, Government of Uganda and donor policies and best practices.
  • Any other duties as assigned.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, or other Management related disciplines preferred.
  • At least three years of experience in similar role within the NGO sector.
  • Up to date knowledge of Uganda employment law, HRIS and payroll systems.
  • Strong communication skills and adept at employee relations including conflict resolution.
  • Ability to plan, organize, manage time, and meet deadlines in an ever-changing environment.
  • Trustworthy, with ability to handle sensitive information and maintain confidentiality.
  • Commitment to excellence, integrity and stewardship of resources.
  • Cultural sensitivity and respect regardless of ethnic group, class or gender.
