Job Summary: The Save the Children Senior Officer, Vocational Training will take lead in identifying, facilitating and coordinating Vocational trainings andInternship/Apprenticeship placements for young people aged 15 to 20 years in 6 underserved sub-counties in Amuru, Nwoya and Gulu districts. The job holder will identify relevant public/private actors and convene a stakeholder forum to identify internship opportunities and create linkages for employment and exposure to the realities of employment for vocational trainees. The incumbent will also monitor the youth/employers during their internship to ensure relevance, quality, address dropout issues and child safeguarding considerations. S/he will ensure the non-formal vocational training is flexible and adaptable to the unique needs of youth with extra family responsibilities. S/he will liaise with Directorate of Industrial Training (DIT), Uganda Private Vocational Institutes (UGAPRIVI) and government district line departments to carry out routine monitoring, quality assurance and certification of Vocational Trainees.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

·         The ideal candidate for the Save the Children Senior Officer, Vocational Training – SOLE job opportunity should hold a bachelor’s degree or higher in either Education, or Development studies. A Postgraduatetraining/Advanced degree in the related field, Social sciences/social works, or Management is an added advantage.

·         Previous experience in livelihood and youth programming is preferred.

·         At least three years of relevant working experience in a similar position in an NGO. Experience working with agricultural and livelihoods programs especially in Value Chain Development and Rural Financial Methodologies including Village Savings and Loan Associations

·         Strong documentation, advocacy, facilitation and presentation skills

·         Past exposure and experience of working with local partners and District Local Government in Child Rights Governance, Health, Nutrition, Education, HIV/AIDS or Child Protection is an added advantage.

·         Excellent analytical skills and strategic planning abilities.

·         Ability to establish and maintain conducive collegial relations and perform effectively as a member of a team.

·         Computer literacy and excellent documentation skills are a must.

·         Highly developed cultural awareness and ability to work well in an international environment with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.

·         Ability to intervene with crisis management or troubleshooting as necessary.

·         Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills including influencing, negotiation and coaching.

·         Excellent time management and planning capacity.

·         Availability and willingness to work extra hours during times of humanitarian responses.

·         Ability to speak local language (Luo) and directly interact with target group will be an added advantage

·         Willingness to travel and work in hard-to-reach areas, occasionally under strenuous conditions.
