Music Review: Ddembessa By Da Twinz ft Radio & Weasel

Well, this is about out of the box as I may ever get.

Ddembessa dropped about 13 years ago. I have never been a fan of Da Twinz or whatever they are calling themselves now, but it was hard to ignore the fact that this song worked, and the lads had a solid following.

The song sounds like a live band trying had to play pop music at a New Year’s party.

Musically speaking, the only thing worthwhile on this track was the pair of lads from Kampala, Radio and Weasel.

Otherwise, the lads from London (that is where Da Twinz are based) could barely sing at this stage. They were frighteningly awful. And still, the song got airplay. Life is full of miracles somehow.

The first time I watched the video, I thought it was a gag of some sort – just a couple of lads fooling around, so that they could drop something on YouTube.

Then I saw Radio and Weasel and thought they were simply fans of the pair, releasing a fool-around video still.

Then it gradually dawned on me that they were serious and releasing this as a collaboration.

Thirteen years later, I still refer to Ddembessa as a modern-day musical miracle.

Heck, people pay to watch these lads in London. But then again, these are the same people that voted Boris Johnson as Prime Minister, voluntarily.

Our Memory Lane section is usually filled with music that blew our minds back then, but then for this week, we are looking at a song where we collectively thought: “I can’t believe they are getting away with that.”
