Muni University invites applications for Diploma Entry Scheme under Government Sponsorship for academic year 2015/2016

The Academic Registrar Muni University is inviting applications under Diploma Entry for Bachelor of Science in Information Technology and Bachelor of Information Systems for the Academic Year 2015/2016.
Dr. James Lam-Lagoro says Diploma holders who posses class three (3) Diploma Certificates are not eligible for admission and therefore should not apply, except where stated in the diploma holders requirements detailed information.

The application forms can be obtained from the office of the Academic Registrar, Muni University on Plot 6 Independent Road, Arua Municipality, TPO Ewuata, Arua.

Shs. 50,000/= (excluding bank charges) MUST be paid in the Muni University Fees Collection A/C No 9030009220525 in STANBIC Bank ARUA.
Deadline: The Completed application form should be returned to Muni University, office of the Academic Registrar and MUST be accompanied by certified copies of certificates and academic transcripts, letter of reference, original bank paying-in-slips and original receipts not later than Friday 12th June, 2015 at 5.00 pm.

Short courses in Epidemiology and Biostatistics at Makerere university school of Public Health

The School of Public Health, College of Health Sciences, Makerere University is offering short courses in Epidemiology and Biostatistics to graduates of various disciplines.
This is in response to increasing demand for research and analytical skills at places of work and among post graduate students and researchers. Applications are requested for the following courses:
Specific short courses offered
The courses are;
- Applied Biostatistics I,
- Applied Biostatistics II-Logistic regression,
- Principles and Practice of Epidemiology and
- Clinical and Community trials.
Applied biostatistics I and Principles and Practice of epidemiology will run from 6th to 17th July 2015 while Applied Biostatistics II and Clinical and Community trials will run from 20th to 31st July 2015. A lot of time on the courses is allocated for on-hands/practical sessions or field work.
The deadline for submission of the applications is 19th June 2015 but it is better to apply early. The cost of each course is US$300 or Ug Shs 750,000 for Ugandans and US$ 400 for non-Ugandans. The fee covers reading materials, stationary, lunch, bag, tea and water.

UTAMU students tipped on Microsoft technologies and opportunities

Microsoft Corporation engaged Uganda Technology and Management University (UTAMU) students in its enormous technologies and opportunities that can benefit them in their study projects and startups.
The main agenda of the talk held at the university campus in Bugolobi Kampala, was to interest students in exploring Microsoft technologies.
The talk mainly targeted undergraduate students in the School of Computing and Engineering.
It was about the various technologies and opportunities that Microsoft has to offer such as Azure, Online Visual studio, Dream Spark for students, the Microsoft Student Partner program among others.
The two officials from Microsoft Uganda, Ms Lillian Nassanga and Paul Asiimwe, encouraged the UTAMU students to sharpen their business capabilities, develop their products and launch their solutions to the market.
Ms Lillian Nassanga said Microsoft is taking a step further to support and offer students all over the world, the exposure of a real-world startup experience outside of the lecture halls.
“As a student, you can use Microsoft platforms to market your startups, businesses or projects,” Nassanga said.
She further explained Microsoft Uganda’s mission which is to help people (students and businesses) to realize their full potential.
Asiimwe also share the various learning resources and tools which a good developer can utilize and come up with good projects and applications.
The students were also engaged in how they can develop and manage their own websites at a no or low cost.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Planning for procurement in line with budgets and plans:
- Actively support the collection and collation of all annual procurement plans of good and services
- Draw procurement plans from approved budgets
- Propose timetable for procurement to be approved
- Set up timetable and agree with finance, programme, sales and centres teams on times, volumes and processes to use
- Ensure that all the necessary paperwork is forwarded to users on time
- Guide staff and all user departments on issues to do with procurement and logistics
- Ensuring cost effective end to end procurement
- Set Up:
- Under instruction and in liaison with users, set up and manage procurement of goods and services closely following policy to ensure timeliness, quality and cost efficiency
- Present procurement documentation to procurement committee on time and accurately
- Prepare adverts, agenda and notices and publish.
- Ensure all the necessary documentation is filled by them before a procurement activity commences
- Proposals, award letters, contracts completed
- Actively participates in pre-bid meetings,
- Supports in Publicizing Procurement notices including liaising with newspapers printing companies about advertisements, and addenda.
- Purchase:
- Send invoices to Finance for payment
- Expeditiously follow up on the suppliers and service providers invoices, and ensure that they are paid in a timely manner
- Storage:
- Ensure receipt is for the right goods (batch numbers, expiry dates etc)
- Ensure proper storage. Raising immediately any concerns
- Actively coordinate with the Warehouse supervisor to ensure that all equipment and pharmaceutical products required by the different field teams are released in a timely manner
- Delivery:
- Consignments sent with teams going to field and through courier in a timely manner..
- Carries out supplier appraisals, with consultation with Procurement and Logistics Manager, and other managers and Directors.
- Record Keeping: Properly files documents including bid documents, proposals, award letters, contracts
- Review and learning from customers:
- Supplier appraisals carried out and reports made every year
- Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual reports about the status of the procurement and logistics.
- Survey staff clients and get feedback on levels of satisfaction
- Actively participates in bid evaluation meetings
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant should preferably hold a Degree or Diploma in the following areas; Business management, Commerce, General Management, Procurement& Logistics Management, Accounting, Pharmacy
- Past experience in procurement &Logistics management related activities in NGO /or commercial setting
- Proven experience of a range of procurement activities, including but not limited to: national and international procurement; warehouse management; pharmacy management.
- Computer literacy skills in Microsoft Office computer programmes, particularly Word and Excel.
- Working knowledge of institutional donors in the sector and related compliance regulations (e.g., DFID, EC, USAID, UNFPA) regarding warehousing.
- Pharmacological experience: knowledge of drugs and pharmacy stores management
- Detailed understanding and knowledge of the principles, procedures and practices of accounting, financial records and transactions
- Deep understanding of current internal audit legislation with the ability to maintain up to date knowledge and sharing developments with colleagues
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to work under pressure
- Ability to work autonomously and to plan and prioritise own workload
