Job Title: Program Officer
TRAC FM is a social change agent that uses SMS for polling at radio stations in Uganda. We are looking for a Program Officer that has experience in IT, social media and journalism to help formulate poll questions and run programs at various radio stations and write small articles about the data collected on our website, Facebook page, print publications and Twitter.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • The Program officer will be responsible for maintaining communications with program managers of radio stations using the TRAC FM program. Radio stations host weekly polls with the use of TRAC FM technology. The program officer will make sure that weekly poll are conducted on all stations by entering the questions into the TRAC FM software system.
  • The program officer will be responsible for planning and reminding radio program managers to hand in the poll question, guiding them in formulation of poll questions and thematic approaches and monitoring polls as they run.
  • The program officer is also required to promote all polls on the TRAC FM Facebook page, website, newspaper and Twitter. All these different communication channels require a different approach in writing and the candidate should be proficient in all. The candidate must also be willing to travel to various radio stations to train presenters in the use of TRAC FM and to set up clear program formats where the TRAC FM platform is integrated in talk shows.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The ideal candidate should possess a Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication/Social Science/ development studies/IT
  • The TRAC FM program officer should ideally have experience in social media, journalism and possess basic IT skills to assist in the running of TRAC FM programs at radio stations around Uganda.
  • The candidate must be punctual, tech-savvy person with good communication skills and interest in societal issues like the delivery of public services in Uganda.
  • Past exposure and experience with print, broadcast and social media
  • Be accurate and can work independently
  • Strong communication/ interpersonal skills;
  • Proven experience in working with computer applications, Social Media (Facebook & Twitter) and the ability to learn new tools;
  • Have worked in an environment that requires regular networking and communicating with partners or clients.
  • Be a fluent English speaker and writer
