The group focuses on developing business models, regulation and technology to support these goals. The Google Access team works to make Internet access more robust, accessible, and affordable for all. The group is focused on developing next-generation technologies and applying existing technologies in new ways, as well as encouraging business models and regulation that can improve broadband access around the world.

The Access Strategy Team drives the access strategy for Google, seeking the creation of more and faster broadband pipes, preserving the openness of the wired Internet and bringing the open ethos of the wired Internet to the wireless world. In partnership with teams across the company, the team develops products, makes strategic investments and influences public policy to achieve these goals.

Job Summary: The Sales and Operations Lead will work in the Google Access team and be responsible for cross-product and cross-team initiatives, working closely with cross-functional team members to refine and evolve our projects, as well as deploy fiber-based and other technologies to markets and communities around the globe. You like being on-the-ground, executing complex projects that bring internet access to people.

The role will support the Google Access team’s efforts to bring broadband to the emerging markets, including sub-Saharan Africa. In addition to helping evaluate and select opportunities, this person will help direct activities on the ground, having experience in working with and managing network deployment projects and building a sustainable business presence.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:  

  • Assist the local and remote management teams with reporting standards and operational excellence.
  • Work collaboratively with remote teams in Europe, US and across Sub-Saharan Africa on network operational issues.
  • Develop and document operational processes. Define, track and visualize key metrics of operational performance.
  • Support sales across emerging markets, and willingness to travel.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:  

  • The ideal candidate should hold BA/BS degree in Computer Science, Engineering or Business or equivalent practical experience.
  • Sales and operations experience in the telecoms industry.
  • MBA or graduate degree in management, technical or engineering field is preferred
  • Current on wireless/wireline telecommunications technology and industry.
  • Working knowledge should include 3G/4G backhaul technologies and fiber optics networks is highly desired
  • Possess the ability to handle ambiguity, work collaboratively with internal and partner contact and quickly learn new processes and tools.
  • Excellent analytical and reasoning skills with technical, contractual and financial issues.
  • Proven track record of excellence and efficiency in operations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
