Job Title:Sales Manager

Standard Chartered PLC is a British multinational banking and financial services company headquartered in Hong Kong, China. We had 11 branches up to 1972 and retained only one branch during the turbulence of the 70s. In 1998 we acquired 4 branches of former Cooperative Bank in November 1999. Standard Chartered Bank Uganda today has a network of 11 branches in Kampala, Jinja, Mbale, Mbarara and Gulu. Standard Chartered Bank Uganda has 29 ATMs and over 600 staff.

Job Summary: The Stanchart Sales Manager will be:

  • Responsible for delivery of agreed New Business channel targets for the business within the Employee Banking Officer framework
  • Coordinating sales activities assigned to Employee Banking Officers
  • Formulating Sales related business strategies for assigned Employee Banking Officers focusing on chosen market segments

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Actively implement the effective sales model; ensure standards of performance and key performance indicators are achieved. These must be reviewed periodically to keep raising the performance bar for Employee Banking Officers.
  • Ensure monthly achievement of New Business sales targets via Employee Banking Officers
  • Establish and address agenda of top issue/opportunities to improve performance and growth ensuring a robust sales/performance management system for optimal productivity and efficiency
  • Collaborate with service quality in resolving service quality issues impacting on sales
  • Conduct regular weekly meetings with GM, Employee Banking Officers and Senior Officers to review performance and agree on strategy
  • Attend the monthly meetings to discuss Employee Banking Officers’ performance
  • Drive, motivate and inspire the Senior officers and Employee Banking Officers to achieve planned sales activities and targets to constantly review competitor activities and make recommendation
  • Ensure high customer service quality in the unit, prompt and timely handling of complaints to the satisfaction of customers.
  • Ensure compliance and adherence to the complaints management process.
  • Recommend performance-oriented sales promotions for the unit
  • Manage and mentor Employee Banking Officers compensation and recommend incentive packages to General Manager
  • Ensure timely and adequate control of payment of incentives/commission to Employee Banking Officers
  • Proactively manage sales activities to deliver planned Employee Banking Officers’ productivity
  • Ensure regular and timely training of Senior Officers and Employee Banking Officers
  • Ensure that Senior officers and Employee Banking Officers follow the laid down procedures and guidelines governing New Business Operations
  • Escalate all risk issues related to the running of sales activitiesat New Business centre to the Head New Business Governance for reporting and mitigation.
  • Ensure compliance with the Anti money laundering guidelines and procedures

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

  • The ideal candidate should hold a first degree in relevant field and/or professional qualification with one year sales experience.
  • At least a year to three years’ working experience in Consumer Banking
  • Detailed knowledge of Consumer Banking products
  • In-depth knowledge in Banking practices, regulations and credit policies
  • Competitive awareness
  • Good customer segmentation/requirements skills
  • Training, presentation and selling skills
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills with exposure to team orientation and people management skills
  • Strong presentation and negotiation skills in presenting alternative financing terms and conditions to maximize returns and minimize credit risk in closing related financial deals
