Boosting food security through modern farming to provide all year round production

Soroti Core PTC in Soroti district has invented in producing vegetables for the students, staff and surplus
for the neighborhood on commercial basis.

A vegetable floral assortment welcomes you with the delicious scent of different vegetables like onions,
Sukuma, and cabbages grown in sacks, old car tyres and used kavera.

This piece of work is done by students through the guidance of their tutors with the aim of transferring
this knowledge to the various schools these teachers will be posted once they are out of school.

Julius Otim Agriculture tutor says such knowledge will supplement these teachers’ income when put into
practice.

He explains how these gardens are developed, maintained and crop output.

Moses Oonyu a student at the institute says this has been able to put the knowledge into practice back
at home during the previous lockdown.

He planted his vegetables in sacks with in the compound and he was able to sell and purchase scholastic materials and pay part of his tuition.

Marrion Angida a student, expressed that this project has helped them enjoy meals at school because
their posh and beans is supplemented with various vegetables.
