Prof. Buyinza Mukadasi, Directorate of Research and Graduate has been appointed to serve as a Member on the Board of Management (BoM) of the Consortium for Advanced Research Training in Africa (CARTA) for a 2-year term (2015-2017) effective March 2015.

The CARTA is an initiative that brings together 9 African universities, 4 African research institutes, and 7 select northern partners.

CARTA aims to develop and deliver an innovative model for doctoral training in sub-Saharan Africa and to strengthen the capacity of participating institutions to conduct and lead internationally-competitive research (

Prof. Buyinza Mukadasi, Mak’s Director of Research and Graduate Training will be a valuable resource to the achievement of the key deliverables of CARTA at the Board level. He will actively engage in the strategic and policy related decisions; approving program annual work plans and budgets and providing fiduciary oversight to ensure that the program adheres to legal and ethical standards.

Prof. Buyinza Mukadasi’s long and varied research experience will strength CARTA’s efforts towards production of a critical mass of high-quality graduates trained to address the complex issues surrounding health and development in Africa, retain them in the region, and provide them a vibrant intellectual environment, as well as viable and challenging research and growth opportunities.

Prof. Buyinza Mukadasi’s appointment to serve on this prestigious research consortium is in recognition of his demonstrated experience of managing reforms in higher education by assisting universities to develop enriching and vibrant academic and research environments; and supporting promising African scholars to obtain high-quality doctoral training.
